NANA is a Japanese girls' manga by Ai Yazawa that was serialized in Shueisha's monthly magazine Cookie from 2000 to 2009. There are also related works such as live-action movies and TV animation based on the original work. NANA is a story about the meeting and growth of two women with the same name. The main characters are Nana Osaki and Nana Komatsu. Nana Osaki is a woman who moves to Tokyo to pursue her dream of becoming a singer as the vocalist of her rock band ``BLACK STONES.'' Nana Komatsu is a woman who moves to Tokyo to live with her boyfriend, but her boyfriend cheats on her and she breaks up with him. The two coincidentally share the same bullet train, and later discover that they are looking for the same apartment in Tokyo with the same room number (room 707), and they begin living together. The two Nana support each other as they face their own love, friendship, dreams, and reality. Nana Osaki reunites with her ex-boyfriend Ren Honjo, the guitarist of the top band TRAPNEST, and they begin dating again, but he also turns to drugs. Nana Komatsu has a relationship with Takumi Kono, the bassist of TRAPNEST, and they get pregnant and get married, but he is also a womanizer and is unable to build a happy family. The story begins in 1999 and progresses to March 2002 as of the 21st volume of the book. However, from Volume 12 onwards, scenes from several years later are inserted here and there, in which it is suggested that Nana Osaki has gone missing and Nana Komatsu is living with a child named Satoshi. NANA is not limited to the genre of girls' manga, but is a work that realistically depicts themes such as youth, love, and music. The emotions and conflicts of the characters deeply touch the reader's heart. In addition, a variety of music appears in the story, and the charm and struggles of a rock band are conveyed. NANA has been on hiatus since 2009 due to the author's recuperation, but many fans are looking forward to the serialization restarting. NANA is popular not only in Japan but also overseas, and translated versions have been published in many countries. NANA is a masterpiece that depicts women living in modern society.
