ヨルは、ミリちゃんという女の子のおうちで暮らしています。ヨルは夜空みたいな色をしていて、お月さまそっくりの大きな目をしています。でも、ヨルは家の外に出たことがなくて、お月さまや夜の町がどんなものかわかりません。ヨルは夜になると眠ってしまいます。
ある夜、ヨルは窓からこねずみを見つけます。こねずみは壁にはさまって動けなくなっていました。ヨルはこねずみを助けてあげると、こねずみはとても喜んでくれました。こねずみは家で暮らしたことがなくて、夜の町を自由に歩き回っています。こねずみはヨルに言います。「夜って、まぶしくて、にぎやかで、おいしいもんだよ」
ヨルは興味津々で、こねずみに夜の町を案内してもらうことにします。でも、ヨルは猫だから人間に見つからないようにしなくてはいけません。こねずみはヨルに帽子やマフラーをかぶせて変装させます。そうして、二人は夜の町へと出かけます。
夜の町では、たくさんの驚きや楽しみが待っていました。お月さまや星空、レストランやパン屋さん、公園や川岸など、色々な場所を巡ります。ヨルは初めて見るものばかりで目を輝かせます。でも、時々人間に気付かれそうになったり、危険な目にあったりもします。そんなときは、こねずみが助けてくれます。
二人は仲良くなって、一緒に食事をしたり、おしゃべりをしたりします。そして、最後に二人が訪れた場所は……。
